Glasgow is a great weekend destination – filled with quaint bars, hidden restaurants and a number of must-see music venues. From mezze platters to Italian slow food, this vibrant city has a dish to suit all.
During the day, get to grips with the contemporary Zaha Hadid-designed Riverside Museum, which is located on Pointhouse Place. Residing on the site of an old shipyard, this transport museum is a great venue for both kids and adults alike.

For a night on the tiles, try Glasgow’s Grand Ole Opry – a cult event complete with upbeat country music, line dancing and the cheapest tipples in town. Taking place every Friday and Saturday evening, this is a must for dance floor fanatics.
Getting to Glasgow is relatively easy with East Coast Rail; leave on a Friday after work and returning on the Sunday evening will allow plenty of time for a great weekend.
Prior to catching the train home, indulge in a Sunday lunch at any one of the many bistros and restaurants. Glasgow has always been a centre for modern art and is also home to Turner prizewinner Susan Philipsz.
