As the start of the Olympic Games draws closer, it is important for those attending to understand some key tips for travelling safely and smartly to get the most out of your trip. This blog post will highlight some of the key considerations if you are travelling to the games in London.

Tickets for the events

Make sure you have all of your Olympics tickets sorted before venturing to London. It is expected that a number of ticket ‘touts’ will be present at all sporting events, selling tickets at inflated prices or even selling fake or stolen tickets for profit.

Ensure you have official tickets from the Olympics ticketing systems to avoid any issues.

Flights and Travel

Demand for flights across the world will have inflated prices, so be sure to buy tickets early.

Consider using flight comparison sites like Kayak and Lastminute to find the cheapest deals on your flights. You can usually find cheaper routes by taking multiple stops on route to your destination, although this may increase the travelling time considerably.

Accommodation

Hotel rooms are at a premium during the games, so be sure to book early or be prepared to do lots of hunting around for good deals. It is estimated that prices have increased around 120% for the games in many of the hotels, with this figure even higher in many cases.

Consider private vacation apartment rentals from a number of companies in the London area. Companies like onefinestay, AirBNB and Homeaway are good examples of websites that offer this kind of service, which will often be better value than an equivalent hotel room.

You could also consider staying in hostels for a very cheap stay – although it is very likely that most inner city hostels will be fully booked during this time. Prices will likely be higher during this time of the year due to demand.

With this in mind it is also useful to consider cancellations. Often hotels will have spare rooms due to previous cancellations, so it may be worth calling a number of places to check for availability.

With a few of these tips we hope you have a fantastic stay in London during the 2012 Olympics.

There are certain places that stay with you forever – places that inspire, educate and astound. The Middle East is one such place, with a history as long as it is contentious. The region includes popular tourist destinations for cheap holidays like Turkey and Egypt, as well as the lesser visited countries of Kuwait and Israel. With over 15 countries traditionally included in the definition there is a lot of territory to explore, but just a few gems that need to be visited, even just for a few days.

Everyone exalts the historical merits of Egypt, but the neighbouring country of Israel has just as much history. There are several places that need to be visited in the country, including the Dome of the Rock, the Dead Sea and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. The country is also home to several beaches, including those on the Red Sea and others on the Mediterranean, so there is plenty of sand to pacify even the most addicted beachgoer.

Jerusalem in itself can be considered to be one of the most stunning tourist attractions in the world. With a Bazaar to rival any other in the world, you can spend hours walking along the crammed streets in search of the perfect souvenir and then devote the evening to tasting local specialties including Falafel and other chickpea based dishes. Israel is also well-known for its nargilas, water pipes, which can be found at many cafes in the city. If you visit Jerusalem, even if it’s just for one night, you should find accommodation with a roof terrace and watch the sunrise over the Dome of the Rock. As soon as the sun appears Mosques across the city call Muslim inhabitants to prayer. The sight and sound of this event will be the most beautiful thing you have ever seen or heard.

The Middle East may not be one of the most popular destinations, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t the best.

China is one of the top choices for a holiday in Asia, and for several great reasons. The large country is home to hundreds, if not thousands, of scenic areas, historical landmarks, cultural excursions and thriving urban areas. However, as you might expect from such a large nation, it can be difficult to organize and plan an entire trip without the help of a guide. There are several reasons to consider having an experienced guide you for all or part of your holiday in China, and here are the best ones:

1. You Have Limited Time in a City: Visitors to exciting and bustling cities like Beijing or Shanghai might want to experience as much as possible during their stay. With only a few days to spend in such a vast city, a tour guide will help you to find attractions quickly and easily, and recommend which sites are worth a visit and which ones to skip over.

2. To Avoid Getting Lost: Whether you are staying in one city and concerned about the public transport or traveling around the country, public transport in a new place can be a challenge to navigate. A tour guide in China will often provide transport in the form of a chauffeured can or bus, depending on the size of the group, which makes it much easier to get around.

3. To Learn the History: While touring an area like the Forbidden City or the Bund District in Shanghai, a knowledgeable guide will be able to give you details about their history, which truly makes the destinations come alive.

4. To Avoid the Crowds: The Great Wall of China is one of the most popular tourist destinations in China, but the popular entrances can be so crowded that the experience is chaotic. A guide will help you to avoid the crowded sections of Badaling and Juyongguan, and instead bring you to restored sections like Mutianyu, which is almost empty and truly scenic.

5. To Understand the Language: In China most people speak Putonghua, although other dialects include Wu and Cantonese. While in the major cities plenty of people can speak and understand English, having a tour guide who knows the language can be a major benefit.

6. Keep You Safe: While most places in China are as safe as any other major city in the world, a tour guide can bring you peace of mind in places like Guangzhou or Nanjing, where crowds can be overwhelming. Knowing you have an experienced local guide by your side will make most travellers much more comfortable.

With these reasons in mind, it may be good idea to consider joining a tour to travel in China on your next holiday.

Book an escorted trip with Virgin Holidays Journeys for a vacation to china you’ll never forget.

It’s easy to spend money in Las Vegas. Whether you’re gambling away your cash at one of the city’s many casinos, drinking and dancing the night away at a club or taking in a Cirque Du Soleil show, you’re likely to return home with a much lighter wallet. However, Las Vegas is home to more great free attractions than the vast majority of other cities. The giant casino resorts are happy to lay on lavish entertainment to draw in guests, as they know the extra revenue from Blackjack tables and slot machines will more than cover the cost.

You don’t have to play the casino owners’ game. With hotels rooms in Las Vegas also being subsidised by gambling, it’s possible to have a great time in the city on a tiny budget. Here are 10 completely free activities to get you started.

10. Viva Vision at the Fremont Street Experience

Head to downtown Las Vegas, and you’ll find the sprawling, five-block Fremont Street Experience. As well as being home to a huge number of retail outlets, the pedestrian mall also hosts daily concerts and performances. The headline attraction, though, is the Viva Vision light and sound show. This sees a canopy of more than 12 million LED lights illuminate the area, accompanied by 220 speakers blasting out 550,000 watts of sound. In a move that doesn’t often happen elsewhere in Vegas, all of the buildings underneath the canopy turn off their lights for the start of the shows, which take place several times after dusk each night.

9. Wild Life Habitat at Flamingo Las Vegas

Flamingo Las Vegas is one of the oldest hotel-casinos on the Strip, having first opened in 1946. Hidden away amidst the neon lights surrounding it is a delightful outdoor wild life habitat, which houses a variety of exotic birds. As you’d expect, flamingos feature heavily, but a number of other species are also on display. The habitat itself features waterfalls, streams, grassy area and trees, which come as a welcome sight in the desert surroundings of Vegas.

8. Sirens of Treasure Island

The free Sirens of Treasure Island show, which is performed nightly outside of the Treasure Island Resort and Casino, will not be to everyone’s taste. Even if muscle-bound pirates and scantily clad sirens are not your thing, it’s worth checking the show out if only to chuckle at the excesses of Las Vegas. The plot, such as it is, is ludicrous, but hang around for the set piece moment in which an enormous pirate ship emerges and a cannon battle breaks out.

7. Fall of Atlantis at Caesar’s Palace

An indoor shopping mall isn’t the place you’d expect learn about Greek and Roman mythology, but the Fall of Atlantis show at Caesar’s Palace offers you the chance to do just that. From 11am onwards, hourly performances center around an impressive fountain. Animatronic statues play the roles of King Atlas and his son and daughter, who fight bitterly over who should take over the rule of Atlantis. A spectacular array of fire and water effects liven up the show, and it’s worth arriving early to grab a good spot. Afterwards, be sure to check out the 50,000-gallon saltwater aquarium behind the fountains, which houses more than 100 species of fish.

6. The Circus at Circus Circus

Living up to its name, Circus Circus is home to what it bills as “the world’s largest permanent circus”. Performances take place every day between 11am and midnight, and feature a variety of classic acts such as jugglers, clowns and trapeze artists. When the show finishes, take a look at the Adventuredome indoor theme park. The rides aren’t free, but it’s fun to explore anyway.

5. Volcano Eruption at the Mirage

A major refurbishment in 2008 breathed new life into the volcano that sits in front of the Mirage hotel and casino. Hourly “eruptions” take place every evening until midnight, with a variety of impressive fire, water and gas effects being used to create an impressive spectacle. The show is accompanied by the sound of real volcano eruptions, although the pina colada fragrance that’s added to the natural gas is slightly less authentic!

4. Explore “Paris”

Las Vegas is home to a number of artificial recreations of real-world cities, including the Venetian and New York-New York. The best, though, is the Paris, which sits at the heart of the Strip. Although you’ll have to pay to catch a lift to the top of the mock Eiffel Tower, wandering around the ground-level streets is free. There, you’ll see a variety of recognizable landmarks, including the Louvre, the Arc de Triomphe and the Paris Opera House. For the most bizarre experience, go the casino early or late, where you’ll find that it’s still daytime in Paris.

3. The “Welcome to Las Vegas” Sign

One of Las Vegas’ most enduring icons, the “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign was first installed by Betty Willis and Ted Rogich in 1959. Since then, it has welcomed travellers to the city, as well as featuring in numerous movies and TV shows. A free parking area is located close to the sign at the south end of the Strip, allowing you to stop for the obligatory photo opportunity. Like everything else in Vegas, the sign is lit up at night.

2. Ethel M Chocolate Factory Tour

Located in nearby Henderson, the Ethel M Chocolate Factory is well worth the diversion. A working factory owned by Mars Incorporated, it produces a range of well-known brands including M&Ms and Mars Bars, as well as Ethel’s Chocolate. Visitors can take a free self-guided tour of the plant, offering them the chance to learn about the production process. As you tuck into your free sample after the tour, be sure to explore the Botanical Cactus Garden, which houses over 300 species of desert plants.

1. Fountains of Bellagio at the Bellagio

Arguably Las Vegas’ most famous and popular attraction, the Fountains of Bellagio show has drawn large crowds its debut in 1998. The enormous artificial lake that sits in front of the Bellagio comes to life during the performances, which feature a huge number of powerful fountains. Best of all, it’s possible to stand for hours gazing at the beautiful effects, as the fountains perform different displays to a variety of songs throughout the afternoon and evening. The show cost an estimated $40 million to install, but you can enjoy it completely free-of-charge.

With Las Vegas’ casinos increasingly battling each other for gambling business, there are literally dozens of other free attractions on offer in the city. Whether you’re on a limited budget, or just all spent out, you need never be bored.

There has long been a debate about the relative merits of Glasgow and Edinburgh. Each city has a proud history and plenty to offer its inhabitants and visitors. So which is better? Both cities have their upsides and downsides, making it difficult to establish the answer to the question.

Size and Population

Glasgow with over a million inhabitants is a much larger city than Edinburgh, which has a more modest population of 500,000. Glasgow has much more of an industrial past than Edinburgh, so the population is more traditionally working class than Edinburgh, which has a very middle-class demographic. Many of Glasgow’s industries have now closed down, although there is still some ship building on the Clyde and the local economy now mainly comprises service industries. Edinburgh’s economy is largely financial, although tourism is also very important. Edinburgh also has one of the lowest unemployment rates in Scotland. Glasgow is a larger city and has a more working-class profile, as well as suffering from more unemployment and this means that there are more deprived areas than in Edinburgh.

Culture and Nightlife

Edinburgh and Glasgow offer a wide range of cultural activities, with both having excellent museums. Glasgow is the home to Scottish Opera and Scottish Ballet, while Edinburgh is the host of the renowned annual festival, which attracts visitors from around the world. This means that hotels in Edinburgh city centre can be almost impossible to find during the month of August. Visitors should try to avoid this period if they are not interested in the festival. If they do want to travel to Edinburgh at this time, they should make sure to book well in advance. In terms of nightlife, Glasgow has a reputation of being trendier, with better bars and clubs. There are good restaurants in both cities.

Shopping and Architecture

In terms of shopping, Glasgow wins hands down. It has a far wider range of shops, from designer outlets such as Versace to well-known high-street brands. Many Edinburgh residents will make the journey to Glasgow to do their shopping.

In terms of their architecture, Edinburgh is a very attractive city with lovely old buildings, while Glasgow also has some very impressive old buildings but with much more in-filling with modern structures. Both cities have plenty of green spaces.

Tourism

Edinburgh can sometimes feel as if it is a city entirely populated by tourists, particularly during the summer months. It is the second-most popular tourist destination in the UK after London. However, Glasgow is the third-most popular so it also counts as an attractive tourist destination. As it is a much bigger city, visitors don’t dominate in quite the same way as in Edinburgh.

Infrastructure

Both cities have an airport and good bus and taxi services. Glasgow has the added advantage of having a subway, which can make it easier to get around. Both have good rail and road networks.

In truth, the city you prefer will depend on your interests and preferences. Edinburgh is a more classical city, where life is lived at a slightly sedate pace. Glasgow is a more modern, vibrant city with a younger, urban feel.

Even though London 2012 Olympic games are some time away, britain’s capital has been in the open public attention from a while now because the plans for the Olympics carry on. And up until the games begin in July 2012, there’s a lot to discover and do in the uk that it could be a significant pity to not get a feeling of this fantastic city in the run up to this exclusive occasion.

Travel UK is obviously, well-known around the globe, and views like the red double decker buses, Buckingham Palace, Downing Street and Bond Street are typical pictures all over the world, and each year huge numbers of people from all around the globe, like the US, Canada, Australia and Europe visit britain’s capital. Although some journey for seasons activities for example London Fashion Week, or special events such as the Royal Wedding, London has a quantity of interesting attractions and locations to check out which are incomparable, and keep the visitors arriving.

Based on your passions and interests, you will notice that there’s something for everybody in London, uk, so if you’re a fan of the arts, like theater, dancing, movie, music and songs and visual art, then you will find regions of London, like the glistening West End, which homes London’s bustling and radiant theatre district, are ideally perfect for you. So before you decide to book your plane tickets and your hotel in London, ensure that you understand what regions of the town that you would like to visit, and just how long it will require traveling out of your chosen hotel in London, uk to your selected destination, whether it is the House of Parliament, The London Eye or even Harrods. Transportation in London is great, and there are numerous methods for getting round the city, whether it is by foot, by bus, taxi or even by the subway, or train so while you are exploring which place to go, take a look at what transportation approaches are open to you, simply because London could be sneakily large.

With regards to being aware what clothing to carry, you’ll have to examine the weather condition and the periods to make certain that you’re generally correctly clothed. The summer time in London, as along with the entire United kingdom can be quite challenging to anticipate, and even while it is going to be much hotter than regular, it’s better to pack something which will shield you from an unpredicted shower or rain storm, like an outdoor umbrella or a light-weight and water-resistant coat. For the fall months, be sure you carry clothing which will help you stay dry and warm, so if you are going through the winter season, be sure you have sufficient layers along with a good pair of shoes or boots or wellies with you, simply because winter months in the united kingdom have grown to be progressively snowy, chilled and slippery.

When the time comes for the Olympics, keep in mind that London travel is going to be a lot busier than typical in that period, if you have ticket for any of the games or activities, be sure to leave your London hotel with lots of time for you to spare, because flight delays during this period in London, uk should be predicted.

So no matter you are visiting London, uk to view the long jump, or no matter if you want to have a photo or two of Big Ben, there are plenty of things to enjoy london this yr, so why wouldn’t you reserve your hotel room in London today?

Jeremy love to blog about upcoming Olympic Games in London 2012. He also enjoy in images of England as well as beautiful UK history and culture.

When planning a trip anywhere the location is always paramount, but for many of us once the location has been decided, what to do whilst we are there becomes the next part to fathom. So, for example, if you have decided to visit Ireland and your interests are music, film and art, you would want to know the best places to go to soak up these parts of the culture. Dublin would seem the obvious choice for many of us as it is the capital city and it is the most populated city in Ireland.

Dublin takes pride in classing itself as a musical city and has a vibrant and lively music scene. Acts such as U2, The Frames and Samantha Mumba originate from Dublin. Dublin is also the home to many live music venues where you have the chance to experience traditional Irish music through to heavy metal. Many visitors to Dublin want a chance to hear traditional Irish music live. This music is most commonly found in pubs and has flourished remarkably over the years. Some of the best places to head are: ‘The Porter House in Temple bar,’ ‘The Arlington Hotel’ and ‘Wheelans’. Alternatively, those who would like to see a gig with a live band or a musician should find out who is playing at venues such as ‘The 02,’ ‘The Aviva Stadium’ or ‘The RDS.’ Acts such as Coldplay, Robbie Williams and Bruce Springsteen have previously played at these venues.

credit: Sean MacEntee

For those who take an interest in the film industry, there is no better place to visit than the ‘Irish Film Institute,’ in Dublin. The IFI is both a cinema as well as a national body which supports the Irish Film Heritage. The range of films available for the Irish audience is increased thanks to the IFI. There is also a bookshop within the building which stocks literature about Irish Cinema.

If you are looking for a gallery in Dublin, then try Irelands ‘National Gallery,’ which has a large range of both Irish and European art. Alternatively visit The ‘Irish Museum of Modern Art,’ for more contemporary works. For musical and operatic performances, visit the ‘Gaiety Theatre’ which also has the added benefit of turning into a nightclub in the evening. The ‘Abbey Theatre’ is suitable for those who prefer more classic theatre productions.

Aside of Dublin, there are many other places in Ireland which celebrate the music, film and art industry. One of these places is Galway which has an annual Arts festival. Each year in the month of July, the festival hosts many cultural delights ranging from; Theatre and Dance, Music, Talks, Visual Arts, Street Art and Comedy. This event is the leading arts festival in the whole of Ireland and over 150,000 people attend each year.

credit: Barnacles Hostels

Another place in Ireland which has a great influence within the Arts world is Cork- which has an eagerly anticipated Jazz Festival each year. The festival takes place during the Bank Holiday Weekend in October and attracts visitors from all over the world. It is fair to say that Ireland is definitely a fantastic place to visit if you are looking for anything related with the arts as it has plenty to offer and also mixes both the traditional and modern cultural aspects effectively, ensuring that there is something for everybody to enjoy.

When you think of Spain, what comes to mind? Flamenco dancers? Bullfighting? Delicious cuisine? Well of course all of the above can be found in Spain, but did you also know that there are also hundreds of UNESCO heritage sites that are worthy of a visit? And then there are the mountains, the stunning beaches, museums and fortresses! A holiday to Spain can be catered precisely to your tastes. Below are five of the must see places in the country.

1. The Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao

The Guggenheim Museum is a true masterpiece. Created from limestone, glass and titanium, the museum opened in 1997 and is a true sight to behold. The museum has received over ten million visitors since it first opened its doors, and with over eighty exhibitions you are sure to be intrigued by quite a few of them. Plus, the city of Bilbao is a great place to spend a few days; located in the Spanish Basque Country, you are sure to experience traditional Spain when you visit.

2. The Alhambra, Granada

The Alhambra is located in Granada, Andalucía and is said to be the best attraction in Spain. This huge palace and fortress was constructed during the 14th century, and after some extensive renovation work was completed in the 19th century, the palace was given UNESCO heritage status. The palace is incredible but it is also very large – it occupies a large section of the city centre, so if you are planning on a visit, make sure you spare a whole day to ensure you get to see as much as you possibly can. Tourists are advised to buy tickets in advance, as the Alhambra is extremely popular.

3. The Sierra Nevada Mountains

Located in the provinces of Almeria and Granada, lies the Sierra Nevada Mountains. These are extremely popular during the winter months when winter sports lovers flock to the area from destinations around the world. Being one of the more southerly winter sports destinations, the Sierra Nevada Mountains are unique, and make for a great experience. Due to their close location to Torremolinos and Malaga, you can be skiing down the slopes in the morning and then relaxing on a warm beach in the afternoon… if you want to of course.

4. Ronda

Ronda is a beautiful little city that is definitely worth a visit if you get the chance. Located in the Andalucía Mountains around sixty miles away from Malaga, the city is full of pre-historic buildings and some amazing rock paintings. Add to this some Roman baths and the oldest bullring in the whole of Spain and you have the basis for a trip back into time. Ideal for couples and families with older children, Ronda is sure to be an experience like no other.

5. La Manga, Costa Blanca

If you just want to relax on your holiday to Spain, you won’t find anywhere better than La Manga in the Costa Blanca. Warm sands, crystal clear beaches and luxurious villas await you as you plan the holiday of a lifetime. La Manga is a very luxurious holiday resort and is a popular choice with tourists throughout Europe. Spas and massages are available, as are water sports and some world class golf courses (for those who want to be slightly more active). This is a great place to visit to end a fantastic holiday in the country.

The La Manga Club Villas really are stunning. They are the ideal accommodation option for tourists who want to relax and chill out after a holiday full of sightseeing.

There are a lot of theme parks all over the world. Some have extreme rides, others have walk in adventures. But you should remember that theme parks are made for kids. You have to base your chosen park according to your kid’s age.

I will provide you with a short list of theme parks perfect for toddlers, kids and teens.

For kids 10 and below, here are the best amusement parks for them:

Legoland California. As a kid, I doubt that you haven’t played Lego. It was so much fun to stack one piece to another and be able to create your own creature, castle or world. Now, you can take your kids to a theme park created for this wonderful toy. You’ll see massive structures made by none other than Lego pieces.

Sea World San Diego. Who doesn’t want to know how water creatures behave? This is a good place for your kids. It’s not only fun, it’s also educational. There are a lot of interactive activities perfect for the whole family. Yes, a lot of people say that the ticket is quite expensive. But believe me, you are putting value on your money if you visit this place.

Sesame Place. A lot of people are not familiar with the Sesame Place in Philadelphia. But you should know that it’s a theme park that you must include in your bucket list. What I like about this theme park is that all the characters are well known to your kids. With that, they can have more fun and they will become more interactive.

And for your teens, you might want to try these:

Universal Orlando. This is the best place for your teens who wanted to become a star. Do you know that they allow you to shoot some scenes? And they will do that with professional help. This is better than taking your kids to childish theme parks. It will just bore them.

Disney World. They have fun rides that will suit the taste of your teenage kids. They need to try the Space Mountain which is the original coaster of the park. Also, there are other heart pumping rides that your kids will never forget.

There are hundreds of theme parks to choose from. But before you book your tickets, you have to make sure that it’ll fit to your kid’s needs. Carefully plan your upcoming trip so everyone would enjoy.

Kim Bookman is a self – confessed thrift spender. If you are like her, you should use this Theme Park coupon before going out with your wonderful kids. There are different offers even for Six Flags Park.
