Five Must-See Destinations in Spain

When you think of Spain, what comes to mind?  Flamenco dancers?  Bullfighting?  Delicious cuisine?  Well of course all of the above can be found in Spain, but did you also know that there are also hundreds of UNESCO heritage sites that are worthy of a visit?  And then there are the mountains, the stunning beaches, museums and fortresses!  A holiday to Spain can be catered precisely to your tastes.  Below are five of the must see places in the country.

1. The Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao

The Guggenheim Museum is a true masterpiece.  Created from limestone, glass and titanium, the museum opened in 1997 and is a true sight to behold.  The museum has received over ten million visitors since it first opened its doors, and with over eighty exhibitions you are sure to be intrigued by quite a few of them.  Plus, the city of Bilbao is a great place to spend a few days; located in the Spanish Basque Country, you are sure to experience traditional Spain when you visit.

2. The Alhambra, Granada

The Alhambra is located in Granada, Andalucía and is said to be the best attraction in Spain.  This huge palace and fortress was constructed during the 14th century, and after some extensive renovation work was completed in the 19th century, the palace was given UNESCO heritage status.  The palace is incredible but it is also very large – it occupies a large section of the city centre, so if you are planning on a visit, make sure you spare a whole day to ensure you get to see as much as you possibly can.  Tourists are advised to buy tickets in advance, as the Alhambra is extremely popular.

3. The Sierra Nevada Mountains

Located in the provinces of Almeria and Granada, lies the Sierra Nevada Mountains.  These are extremely popular during the winter months when winter sports lovers flock to the area from destinations around the world.  Being one of the more southerly winter sports destinations, the Sierra Nevada Mountains are unique, and make for a great experience.  Due to their close location to Torremolinos and Malaga, you can be skiing down the slopes in the morning and then relaxing on a warm beach in the afternoon… if you want to of course.

4. Ronda

Ronda is a beautiful little city that is definitely worth a visit if you get the chance.  Located in the Andalucía Mountains around sixty miles away from Malaga, the city is full of pre-historic buildings and some amazing rock paintings.  Add to this some Roman baths and the oldest bullring in the whole of Spain and you have the basis for a trip back into time.  Ideal for couples and families with older children, Ronda is sure to be an experience like no other.

5. La Manga, Costa Blanca

If you just want to relax on your holiday to Spain, you won’t find anywhere better than La Manga in the Costa Blanca.  Warm sands, crystal clear beaches and luxurious villas await you as you plan the holiday of a lifetime.  La Manga is a very luxurious holiday resort and is a popular choice with tourists throughout Europe.  Spas and massages are available, as are water sports and some world class golf courses (for those who want to be slightly more active).  This is a great place to visit to end a fantastic holiday in the country.

The La Manga Club Villas really are stunning.  They are the ideal accommodation option for tourists who want to relax and chill out after a holiday full of sightseeing.
