Once the fun and excitement of Christmas is over it can feel like you’ve got nothing to look forward to until the weather starts to improve and you can begin enjoying the clement British summer time. Of course another negative aspect of the first few months is lack of money; following the Christmas festivities many of us have to wait until that February pay has cleared before our finances are healthy enough to even think about a few indulgent purchases. Here are 4 tips on how you can enjoy a weekend break without spending a fortune.
Daily Deal Sites
These days there are almost as many daily deal sites as there are websites dedicated to nothing but cute kittens. We all know the big ones like Groupon and Living Social but there are dozens of other ones out there too and most have a specific section just for getaways and short breaks. Most these sites aren’t going to be offering really cheap deals on accommodation that was really cheap to begin with but most deals will come with meals and even a few activities included in the price so what you’re paying up front really is all you’ll need to spend after travelling.
These deals can be a great way to see bits of the UK you might never have otherwise thought to visit and at a fraction of the price you would have normally had to pay.
Old Friends
When we’re young we have no problems making friends, something as simple as the teacher assigning a seating arrangement in school or a randomly assigned flat mate in halls of residence at university can lead to a great friendship. Unfortunately as we grow up and spread our wings it’s not long before we go months or even years without speaking to them again. Luckily the internet comes to the rescue again here and with social network sites there’s no excuse for not keeping in touch at least in cyber space. I’m not saying you should get back in touch with old friends just for the hope of a free holiday but a few messages might reveal you’ve got even more in common now than you had years ago and meeting up can be a great experience for the both of you.
Don’t forget to return the offer and have them come stay with you too, there’s nothing like showing someone round your own town to help you see it through new eyes again and even help you discover some little gems you’d never noticed before.
