Cheap Travel Insurance

We all know that travel insurance is vitally important if you are going on holiday – be it for a long weekend, an overnight trip or even a 3 month cruise. But knowing what your insurance covers, and how much cover you need, can be tricky.

We all know that direct travel insurance covers any hospital costs that may occur while we are on holiday. We never plan on being taken ill or getting injured while on holiday, but if we do our travel insurance is there to cover our medical expenses.

Travel insurance also covers such events as your baggage being lost or any personal items being lost or stolen while you are out enjoying yourself. Any money that you have on you or have in your hotel room is also covered. Travel insurance also covers you incase you cannot take your holiday, for example if you have to cancel it because of illness, injury or death of a close relative. It also covers you incase you have to cut your holiday short because of these. Travel insurance policies also cover you incase your flight is delayed or cancelled.

A very useful extra that many travel insurance companies offer is personal liability cover. This covers you if you injure someone, or their property, whilst you are on holiday. This is an exceptionally useful add on if you are planning on hiring a car or bike while on holiday.

When it comes to how much travel insurance cover you need it does depend upon your personal circumstances. If you have pre existing medical conditions it is often worth buying your insurance through a broker, who will make sure you are covered to the level you need. If you haven’t got a pre existing condition there is a general level of insurance you should look to be covered up to. This includes £1m of emergency medical cover within Europe and £2m if you are going elsewhere, in particular the USA. On top of this you should have £1,000 for baggage and personal belongings and £200 to £500 for stolen or lost cash including traveller’s cheques.

Your Guide To Portugal

Portugal is one of the most beautiful countries in Europe and one of the most popular holiday destinations for tourists looking for a relaxing holiday. Here’s a few tips to make sure you get the most out of your holiday.

Driving in Portugal

Hiring a car can be one of the best ways to really get to see what Portugal has to offer. Their road network is sophisticated and you can easily get from one end of the country to the other in a few hours. It is worth noting that some Portuguese motorways do require a toll fee and you’ll notice most motorways offer a ‘via verde’ lane which is just for motorists who have paid a subscription to drive there. The attitude towards driving in Portugal is one of put your foot down and hope for the best so if you’re more of a nervous driver Portuguese roads may not be for you and always make sure you’ve got a very comprehensive insurance policy.

Eating in Portugal

Like most southern European countries, Portugal loves its food and it’s not hard to see why. Sitting down to dinner isn’t just a human requirement to refuel the body it’s a social event and a real Portuguese mean can last hours. It’s common place in Portuguese restaurants to have a dish of entrées brought to the table, where as these would usually be free in most other countries, in Portugal they will usually appear on the bill, if you’re in doubt always check with your server. In a typical Portuguese restaurant the food will be fresh and generally very healthy, fishes and meat will usually be locally sourced and things like olives and berries are everywhere.

Where to stay

Like most holiday destinations you’ll have the usual choice of B&B’s, hotels, villas and apartments when it comes to finding somewhere to stay in Portugal. If you want a spot of luxury in your holiday then consider staying in a Pousadas which is a Portuguese hotel that was once a building of historic interest like a castle or a fort. If you want to take in some beautiful sites and surround yourself with Portuguese history and culture a Pousadas is the place for you. If you want something a little more rustic and something that’s going to give you the experience of really being in Portugal then a local B&B will be for you but be careful as there are some Portuguese business owners that would be happy to take advantage of a naive tourist.

10 Tips For First Time Holidaymakers In The Costa Del Sol

Although the Costa Del Sol is a fairly well established and reliable destination when it comes to getting everything you want from a holiday, if you haven’t been there before you can still miss out on all the best bits.  To make sure you make the most of your holiday, check out these 10 tips for first time holidaymakers in the Costa del Sol.

1.  Pick Your Resort

The Costa del Sol has a huge range of resorts so there is something to suit all tastes.  If you’re looking for a bit of luxe and the odd celebrity spotting then head to Marbella; for the traditional Spanish package holiday book in at Torremolinos; and for something a bit more low key, try the resort of Nerja.

2. Hire A Car

If you can’t make up your mind which resort you want to stay in, or you want to pack in as many of the sights and sounds of the Costa into your holiday as you possibly can, then car hire is an excellent idea.  Hiring a car can cost from as little as €11 per day and there are normally plenty of models to choose from.

3. Take A Credit Card

Although the main focus of your holiday will no doubt be sun, sea and nightlife, there’s much more to buy on the Costa than a bucket and spade and a pina colada.  Many of the resorts can cater for some pretty high end shopping tastes so if you want to blow the holiday budget on designer shoes, you’ve come to the right place.  Check out the high fashion boutiques on Marbella’s Golden Mile if you want to go all out.

4. Hit The Beach

Probably one of the best things about the Costa is the miles and miles of beautiful beaches that attract the thousands of holidaymakers who flock to the area each year. La Cala Beach is particularly well known for its fine, golden sand, head to the cool beach clubs of Puerto Banús if you’re not shy about accidentally being papped sitting behind a celeb or two, or enjoy the dramatic landscapes and hidden bays of Cabo de Gata, Costa Calida.

5. Jump In A Boat

It’s not just on the beaches of the Costa del Sol where the best relaxation and entertainment is to be found. Venture off your sun lounger and take a boat trip into the Straits of Gibraltar to spend the day watching whales and bottle-nosed dolphins frolic in the waves.
