The Size of the Cruise Ship

Inexperienced cruise-goers think that all cruise ships are essentially similar. As such, they usually make a decision based on the price. In fact, there currently exist hundreds of ships offering widely differing experiences, so if you select a cruise based only on the price and destination, you run the risk that the vacation you dreamed of turns into a real nightmare.

The key for spending perfect vacations aboard a cruise ship is to know the details of the ship. There are river cruises or ocean cruises, adventure cruises bound for little-known destinations, and themed cruises that focus your time on board toward specific activities. When the time comes to make a decision, one of the most important aspects is the size of the ship since this will determine the number of attractions, the personal nature of the service and the space you will have at your disposal.

Small cruise ships: a world of relaxation and elegance

Small cruise ships have a capacity of about 500 people and generally head for exotic destinations. These ships are designed to favour an individualized service that is fast and efficient. Here you will not find long lines, nor will you lose time waiting for services. The cabins are usually particularly elegant and the atmosphere is very relaxed since there are few passengers.

The limitations of small cruise ships lie in the generally higher prices and the reduced size of common areas such as pools, gyms or bars. In addition, the possibilities for entertainment, both for adults and children, are much more limited. Because of this, small cruise ships are primarily perfect for those who prioritize elegance, personalized treatment and a relaxed atmosphere, while simply enjoying the pleasure of sailing in it.

The big cruises: floating cities

The largest cruise ships can transport more than 1000 passengers; today, there are even ships with a capacity of 6000 passengers. Normally this type of ship guarantees 24-hour fun since it is really a floating resort. Generally featuring a large variety of restaurants, different bars, numerous shows, spas offering modern treatments and perfectly equipped sports centres, large cruise ships spare no resources in distracting their guests.

The disadvantages of embarking on these cruise ships stem from the number of people on board. You will never encounter a free spot at the pool and you will have to wait in long lines at the restaurants or when you disembark. A standard service is offered which is practically impossible to personalize. Because of this, large cruise ships are most ideal for those traveling as a family: they prioritize having many entertainment options on board and they do not bother most people.

5 Tips to Balance Your Time During the Holidays

The holidays are not a time for relaxation or for letting the days pass by sluggishly. The holidays are a time for getting as much done as possible in the short month you have between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Most people are even starting before Thanksgiving in an attempt to get as much done as possible. This holiday season, learn how to balance your time so that you can get as much done as you want, without neglecting the more important things. Don’t let the glitter of extreme Christmas decorating take away from quality time with your family. Stop yourself from doing poorly on final exams because you went to yet another ugly sweater party. Here are 5 ways to balance your time during the holidays:

  1. Set aside family time. For most people, the holidays are a time to be with the people they are closest too. Often, other things of lesser importance get in the way. To avoid this, schedule out your time with close friends and family before things get hectic. Make sure that time is committed to them and make it non-negotiable. If you have to miss a work party or a charity event to be with family, then do it.
  2. Shop early. If you already missed the pre-Thanksgiving and Black Friday shopping, there’s still time to get your shopping done early. Most people have the false impression that there remains yet another full month before they need to have their shopping done, but don’t let this thought fool you. The business of doing other things will make the time fly by. Start buying presents and wrapping them as soon as you read this—there’s no time to delay!
  3. Learn to say no. If you already have a full plate and someone asks you to do yet one more thing, you are in no way obligated to say yes. Instead, learn the fine art of saying “no”. You don’t have to be mean or rude about it, you can explain your situation to the person and kindly let them know that you won’t be available. But be warned, some people may still be upset with your denial, despite your efforts and kindness. If this is the case, don’t sweat it, you wouldn’t have done a good job if you had overworked yourself and you would have been forced to neglect things that were more important to you.
  4. Learn to cheat. If you don’t have the time to cook an entire homemade meal, it’s ok to cheat on a few things. Instead of making homemade bread and homemade pies, make the bread and buy your pie from a store this year.

How to Properly Secure Your Luggage Before You Fly

Holidays are a time for relaxation and recuperation and the last thing you want to have to be worrying about is the security off your personal belongings whilst you are travelling. Thanks to the prevailing threats of terrorism security measures when travelling have become much higher. However there are also the usual risks to be considered, such as theft and loss of baggage, and these will form the focus of this article.

Firstly then we need to examine the changes in airport security that have now come into effect. Since the terrorist attacks of 2001 there have been a slew of new security measures imposed on flights leaving and returning to the UK and being aware of the new regulations is essential to having a hassle free time at the airport. Initially the first thing to be aware of is the rules governing liquids. You are no longer able to carry any liquids over 100ml onto any flight (excepting duty free purchases) and you need to make sure that you don’t do so. The term liquid may be a little misleading as this applies to a huge variety of things including drinks, make up and cleaning products. It can be a real hassle having to throw away your expensive make up just before travelling so err on the side of caution by reading the labels carefully and putting all your beauty products etc. into your bag.  Aside from the liquid limitations you also need to avoid carrying any sharp objects in your carry-on luggage including nail files and other small yet potentially harmful objects. Taking these steps will ensure that you can pass through airport security with relative ease.

Secondly you need to consider your own luggage security rather than airport security measures. It is sad to say that airports are frequently places where you can “lose” your baggage or have it rummaged through by nefarious persons. With this in mind taking some careful steps to ensure your luggage security is essential to maintaining your safety. Firstly make sure you have a sturdy case as luggage handlers are often less than delicate with your personal belongings and you don’t want anything broken unnecessarily. Secondly make sure that you use padlocks on your bags to deter prying hands. Thirdly make sure that you use identifying marks on your bag such as ribbons or coloured straps so that you can easily identify you luggage at all times and reduce the risks of confusing it with another’s or them confusing it with theirs.
