5 Travel Necessities

As an adult, traveling isn’t as easy as it used to be – there’s everything from coordinating vacation days to remember to change money to realizing that you forgot the sunblock. But there are always those things that you absolutely cannot travel without.

Just take a minute and think of the things that you need when you travel – what sticks out in your head, whether it’s gadgets or walking shoes? These are the things that I know I need when I travel – what about you?

Camera

As I’ve gotten to travel more extensively, I don’t necessarily break out my camera as often as I used to – I prefer to enjoy the moment – but there are always those things that you are going to want to photograph.

If you don’t have the photograph, you know that in ten years time when you’re trying to explain to your kids how much of an awesome time you had in Rome you just aren’t going to be able to come up with the right words.

They say “an image is worth a thousand words” for a reason. So, long story short, when you’re traveling it’s pretty important to bring along a camera – film, digital, point and shoot, professional or even just your camera phone.

It’s capturing the memory of the experience that matters.

Universal Adapter

In the ever-burgeoning world of technology, nobody goes far without some sort of gadget in tow. But you’re not going to be able to use the same plug for the wall socket everywhere you go – and you can’t always guarantee that one country is going to have the same kind of outlet – sometimes they have one or two different plugs within the same country!

Which is why you want to save yourself the headache and get a universal adapter. For the good ones that you can really use in just about any country, you’ll probably be spending about $50 – but if you’re someone who travels frequently the investment is worth it.

Who wants to worry about an additional two or three pounds of stuff just to make sure that your technology works in that country anyway? Just do away with the hassle and have one. (And then, especially if you bring your computer that has the third grounding prong, you’re probably going to want to bring a converter to make that two-pronged as well).

Light Luggage

Especially these days where airlines are charging an arm and a leg if you have additional pounds on your luggage – learn to pack lean and mean. Don’t pack 5 pairs of shoes when 2 will do.

Can you get a cheap hotel bookings package that includes transportation? You can if you know where to look. If you want to unwind from your hectic days, all you need to do is look for the perfect place to go. You don’t have to look far either and you don’t have to spend a ton of money to get what you want out of the vacation.

Start by finding a vacation package you can enjoy and look for cheap hotel bookings at the same time. You want a package that not only gives you transportation options but food and activities too. If you like to sightsee, then you should find a place that can give you a ton of sightseeing options such as New Orleans, Rome, etc. There are many places around the world that have a wonderful history.

A place to help you locate and get cheap hotel bookings is the Internet. There are all kinds of places and packages that appeal to ant person. Find packages that give you the most for your money. If you plan to spend a week on vacation, find a package that offers discounts and cheap hotel bookings.

Business trips don’t have to be boring any longer. By booking your package yourself, you can do the things you want to do after business meetings. Be sure your plans call for fun in the sun if you want.

You don’t need to go through a travel agent to find your package. Using the Internet, you can choose a vast array of travel plans and options all within the comfort of your own home. You can choose a package that fits within your budget and can be fun for you and your family. You can even find a guide to show you around your vacation town/city.

By finding cheap hotel bookings, you can get more vacation for less money. Be sure you find the package that is right for you and your family.

Italy – Always a Cell Phone at Hand

This scene cracked me up when I fist saw it because it was so Italian. That is, in Italy, everyone has a fascination with cell phones… the country has one incidence of cell phone usage on the globe with articles even noting that adolescents often have multiple cell phones. As early as 1999, there were more cell phones in use in Italy than landlines… similar to cell-phone crazed Finland. It could be because landlines are ridiculously expensive in Italy. When I call my aunt in Rome, she’s always in a rush to get off since calls are metered, like traditional cell phone plans. Anyway, watching this scene unfold in Villa Celimontana in April 2008 had us laughing. So normal to Italians but so typical, too. Certainly the children and the pony are unfazed.

Chestnuts roasting on a Roman fire

One of my most vivid memories of my childhood in Italy is the smell of vendors selling warm chestnuts during wintertime. I guess the old song about chestnuts roasting on an open fire still rings true in Italy. To this day, you can wander the chilly winter streets of cities like Rome and buy a rolled up paper cone of warm chestnuts – a great little snack on a wintry day. Here is a picture of my cousin getting his fill on a cold November day in 2005…
