Keep a list of important contacts on you at all times.

While you hope to be healthy and safe, accidents and medical incidents can happen anywhere, even on holiday. This is why you should keep contact details handy. This list should include the police, hospitals, your hotels, embassies, insurance companies, family members and other emergency contanct information. Have an “in case of emergency” number or ICE on your list or in your phone or both. In the event that something happens to you, others can use this number to get in touch with the people you are traveling with or loved ones at home.

Be smart with your money.

Bring cash and more than one credit card with you when you travel. Don’t keep your cash and card in one place in the event of theft. Consider using a hidden wallet, keeping cash in different pockets and even using a safe at your hotel. Having multiple credit cards will protect you in the event of theft or if one stops working. Keeping a card hidden in a hotel safe means that you will still have funds on holiday if you are the victim of a pickpocket. Just be sure to call the bank to cancel any cards immediately if you are the victim of theft.

Protect yourself from the sun.

Believe it or not, Egypt is a sunny country. While this seems like a no brainer, many tourists forget to take basic precautions against the sun’s rays. Bring sunglasses, and if you forget them, buy some immediately. Also make sure that you use sunscreen on any exposed part of your body daily to avoid painful burns.

Stay healthy by watching what you eat or drink.

Many who visit Egypt may find themselves with stomach difficulties and other health issues due to what they consume on their trip. Sometimes they change of cuisine can be to blame, but often it is due to poor hygiene and unsafe food handling. To prevent this, you should only eat food from places that look clean; if a restaurant feels unsanitary, it is okay to leave.

The Slovakian capital of Bratislava can be a great place to go for a short break. However, as is the case with any other major city, it’s important that you make the effort to stay safe, particularly if you are on a stag do. By bearing in mind the following tips you can be sure you’ll have a great time as well as getting back home in one piece!

Chances are that you will spend much of your time in Bratislava’s Old Town district. Here, not only will you find many of the city’s major tourist attractions, such as Grassalkovich Palace and Michael’s Gate, but also a high number of bars, clubs, cafes and restaurants.

As such, you should be aware that pickpockets operate here and will often target foreign visitors. Make sure you don’t keep your wallet in an outside coat pocket, particularly if you are leaving it on the back of a chair in a restaurant or bar. It’s also a good idea to avoid walking around by yourself, especially at night, as doing so could mean you are more prone to being a victim of crime.

Of course, you may well be interested in the many drinking haunts, after all the reasonably priced beer is just one of Bratislava’s many attractions. However, you should bear in mind that while you are allowed to drink in a restaurant or pub’s outside seating area, as well in certain places when the Christmas Market takes place, as a general rule consuming alcohol in public is illegal. If you are caught doing this by the police you could be liable to pay a fine of €33 (around £28).

While out on the town make sure you keep an eye on your drinks and avoid taking those offered to you by strangers, so you don’t fall victim to your beverage being spiked. There have also been reports of groups of female con artists approaching men, acting drunk or wanting to take you to a bar for a drink. While talking to you, they may attempt to rob you of your wallet or other valuables, so it is best to politely refuse any suspicious offers and simply walk away.

It is also worth your while to familiarise yourself with the country’s laws before you go. One rule that you should pay particularly close attention to while in the Old Town is that adverse noise is not allowed in public places between the hours of 22:00 and 06:00.
