Visit Cornwall this summer
I love Cornwall, well most of it anyway, it’s one of those places you just fall for. From childhood I have regularly visited this rugged coastal county – for reasons I am not always certain, perhaps those childhood memories melt my heart? When the summer comes around it is a beautiful place, full of vibrancy, excitement and at the same time peaceful and tranquil.
I have visited in other seasons, seasons with rain, fog and once only, even snow! I must during these weather conditions (minus the snow!) I had moments of doubt and wished myself away to echo beach – far away in the sun. Love is a strange thing and is by no means rational – I love this place.
Reasons to visit Cornwall
Cornwall, as you probably know is the most southerly county of England; it’s a good ~ 6 – 7 hour train or coach journey from the UK capital, Cornwall is well connected and the county has its own air link from London as well as a handful of other cities – fly straight to the heart of Cornwall in no time at all.
The Cornish people are relaxed, interesting and happy to talk to strangers; there is a certain atmosphere they create which makes you instinctively bond with these southerly people. I bring my children down each time I visit, I wouldn’t have it any other way (neither would they!), and they love it here playing on the beaches they remind me of times when we used to visit with my parents. Children have so many options now exploring the woods, caves, countryside and visiting the numerous attractions.
Accommodation is always within stone’s throw of your intended destination of the county or a short drive and caters for every budget from camping to 5 star hotels, bed and breakfast to boutique holiday cottages in the heart of Cornwall.
Cornish food is not all pasties, contrary to popular belief – although the pasties baked in Cornwall are amongst one of the finest meals and quick eats, I highly recommend trying a few from different bakeries around the county. Cornwall is surrounded by sea; I always make the most of this and take every opportunity to enjoy the bountiful supplies of fresh fish at restaurants as often as I possibly can.
The best thing about Cornwall is its amazing beaches, the sweeping sea is everywhere you go and there is something for everyone at the beach as long as the weather holds up its end of the bargain.
